Supporting the Amateur Swimming Association

This past weekend, the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association (GASA) hosted its annual 50m and 100m ‘Oak’ Sprint Gala at Beau Sejour Leisure Centre, drawing a large crowd. Sprinters ranging from age from 9 to Masters competed in four swimming events, including freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly.

On Saturday, March 4th, Laura broke two gala records in the 16+ category in the 50m Sprint, clocking in at 33.51 seconds for the 50m breaststroke. Conor, from the Masters group, broke the 50m backstroke record with a time of 29.75 seconds.

James Tracey went to watch, cheer on all the swimmers and present the trophies after the sprints. James said,  “The swimming fraternity demonstrate a strong community spirit that thrives on hard work, devotion to the sport and respect for each other.  We have witnessed some fantastic swimming this weekend from the very youngest competing for the first time to those preparing for the forthcoming Island Games, showing such amazing speed and skills."

The following day, Sunday March 5th, GASA held their 100m gala where again, swimmers of all ages competed in 100m sprints in all four strokes and a 100m Individual Medley. It was fantastic to see Laura who set the 50m record, set a new record for the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1.15.31.

Joe Woodward presented the on the Sunday and said, "I thoroughly enjoyed watching the swimmers from the poolside. It is a pleasure to attend these sponsored events and present the awards to the competitors in person."

Oak has been a proud sponsor of the Guernsey Amateur Swimming Association for the past three years, and we are delighted to continue our support for another three.
